The list will boggle your mind! Read all the way to the bottom. These are just a few of the amazing famous scrapbookers in the past and one from our generation as to how, why, and what they scrapbooked. This doesn't even touch on all the famous scrapbookers since the known beginning of scrapbooking!
Let's start with my favorite... Walt Disney!!! Even though visits to his fabulous parks have sparked the creation of millions of scrapbooks, it all started with is own scrapbook! Walt used a sketchbook as a scrapbook to illustrate not only his concepts and cartoons but also happenings throughout his life. For example he served with the Red Cross during WWI. The trenches of WWI were often inhabited by rats. Walt would draw the "trench rats" perhaps making them a prelude to the famous mouse we all know and love.
Next is Mark Twain! He was an avid scrapbooker to the point that he took his scrapbooks with him while traveling to chronicle the happenings in his life. One of the most amazing things to me is that he was so enthralled with scrapbooking that in 1872, he patented the incredibly popular "self-pasting scrapbook" which earned him approximately $100,000 in sales! It is believed to have been his best selling "book". Dozens of his scrapbooks are still in existence today.
Next up is Thomas Jefferson! Yes, even politicians scrapbooked! Unbelievable as it is, while president between 1801 and 1809, he found time to create four small scrapbooks. They contained a compilation of poetry clippings and his own handwritten notations regarding them. The contents are still available to read.
This last scrapbooker I wanted to mention was a pleasant surprise to me... Joan Rivers! Her daughter found 55 scrapbooks that dated back to 1959 that documented Joan's life's work in comedy and told her life's story. They contained news clippings, good and bad reviews, photos, and more!
